Leica expects moderate growth after record year

The complete Leica Camera 2011/2011 annual report is out but so far only in German language. You can read the short recap from Finanznachrichten:

“After a rapid profit and revenue growth in fiscal year 2010/2011, the camera maker Leica expects this year with a weaker growth. The sales should rise by 3 to 5 percent.”

Back in June, Leica Camera reported record sales and the intend to pay dividends (for the first time since 1997).

French luxury group Comite Colbert accepts Leica Camera as a member

The French luxury goods associations Comite Colbert added Leica Camera as a member. This is the about paragraph taken from Comite Colbert website:

“Founded in 1954 at the initiative of Jean-Jacques Guerlain, the Comité Colbert, an association governed by the French law of 1901, has a membership of 75 houses of French luxury whose object is to collectively promote their shared values in France and internationally. Their quest is to combine tradition and modernity, craftsmanship and creativity, history and innovation.”

Interviews with Andreas Kaufmann and Stefan Daniel

The Invisiblephotographer published an interview with Andreas Kaufmann taken after the M9-P announcement. This is the recap:

  • The new 25,000 square meter facility Leitz Park 2 will be able to double the products turnover over the next 4 years.
  • Dr. Kaufmann on the Leica M10: “Usually, this industry has cycles in the 2-years range, which is usually Photokina. So if people were to come to Photokina in 2012, maybe they may see something“.
  • Leica is considering some of the new technologies used by other camera manufacturers: “But there will be some technologies that could make sense. HD, wireless, Geo-tagging all could make sense. We are studying these, and usually at the end, we’ll come up with a German engineer solution”.
  • Leica will continue to produce the film M7 and MP rangefinders.
