Leica has “couple of nice things coming in 2011”

Leica Camera AG mentioned on their twitter account that they “have a couple of nice things coming in 2011”. The compact camera line was completely refreshed last year, so any new products must be X, M, or S related. Of course they could just be talking about a social media promotion/contest. So far Leica AG has not announced any new products in 2011.

credit: Nokton/flickr

The Fuji X100 camera is now shipping in Japan. Flickr member Nokton was one of the first lucky owners who also posted several pictures comparing the  size of the Fiji X100 to Leica M3. Follow Nokton’s flickr stream for more X100 samples in the next few days. I am also covering the latest Fuji X100 developments on PhotoRumors.com.

Currently Amazon is taking Fuji X100 pre-orders, US shipments should start in the next 1-3 weeks.

Leica iM mirrorless design concept

Those two images were sent to me anonymously with the following text:

  • Mirrorless APSC camera with movable screen
  • iM mount
  • Noctilux iM 0.95/35
  • Compactness and simplicity for endless creativity

My guess is that those are just designer’s concept renderings not related to Leica Camera AG.

Magnum Photos and Leica announced a technological and photographic collaboration

Magnum Photos and Leica Camera AG announced a technological and photographic collaboration. BJP noted that as part of this agreement, Magnum photographers will contribute to the future development of Leica products. Leica will also sponsor a series of independently produced multimedia essays by Magnum’s photographers:

“We’ll start with five essays, but based on their success, it’ll be a continuing relationship. You can consider these five essays as part of the first edition.”

The first assays are expected to be produced in Spring of 2011. Magnum photographers can submit ideas for considerations even if they don’t use/have Leica cameras.
