This just in: Leica Camera announced a new M-P Typ 240 Safari camera that comes with a silver Summicron 35mm f/2 ASPH lens. The price of the kit is $9,990 and is currently available for pre-order at B&H, PopFlash and Leica Store Miami, Leica Store San Francisco and RedDotCameras (UK). The new Safari edition offers over $1,000 in savings compared to purchasing the M-P and lens separately (M-P costs $8k and the Summciron costs $3k). Shipping should start in late February or early March. The European price is €9,900 (€500 in savings over buying separately).
Update: this M-P Safari kit will actually be a limited edition model – only 1,500 units will be produced. The kit will also include a leather strap and a SD memory card holder. This is the first time we see a limited edition Leica camera that actually offers a savings over the regular model (the M-P was not part of the recent Leica rebates).

Few months ago I mentioned that Jessops will start selling Leica cameras. The UK based photography chain has now updated their website with a dedicated Leica online store. The Leica M offering is still limited, but hopefully they will expand it in the future.

Last year I reported that Leica will announce a new M240 Lenny Kravitz edition camera made from raw/coated brass. Well, the rumors were true – the new Leica M-P (Typ 240) Lenny Kravitz version will come in a kit with two different lenses: 35/2 ASPH and 50/1.4 ASPH (black paint E43). Only 120 pieces will be produced.
