White Leica M8 limited edition unboxing

David Farkas posted some pictures of what’s in the box of the limited edition white Leica M8. It seems that the camera is selling well given the price tag of $8500 and 275 units worldwide. You can contact him if you are interested since he will be receiving some more in the next few weeks.

The quest for the biggest lens continues

This is just an update on the series of previous posts about the biggest/most expensive lens in the world.

After Leica (1600mm) and Zeiss (1700mm), now it seems that Canon will be the winner with 5200mm/f14 lens (the picture is from eBay – this lens was for sale a while ago):

Now I know how “Canon” got its name. More info on this monster is available here.

Underwater housing options for Leica D-Lux 4

I did a small research on the available Underwater housing options for Leica D-Lux 4. I may buyt one in the future for more detailed review. Feel free to share your own experience (if you have one).

1. The first option (and the best option in my opinion) is from 10bar. The price is around US$630, but at this point it can only be purchased from Hong Kong. In Europe this item is available through aditech-uw.com for 589EUR. For more info and pictures click here.

Specs:

  • Individually tested to 10Bar (90 m / 300 ft.)
  • Recommended working pressure 60 m.
  • Closure Design: double O-rings, key hole lock
  • Body Material: aluminum, acrylic
  • Size: 134 x 152 x 112mm (LxWxH)
  • Weight: approx. 920g (housing only)
  • Buoyancy (with camera): slightly negative in salt water

2.UK-Germany UK-LX3 Underwater Housing. A bit expensive and it seems that it doesn’t have so many controls on the outside surface. Price: 1.198 EUR.

Specs:

  • Type machined aluminium body

  • Weight (exc. camera) ca 900 g / 0 lbs
  • Max. depth 70 m / 230 ft.

3. The next underwater housing HC-LD3 is for Leica D-Lux3, but I think it will fit also the D-Lux 4, it seems to be enough space on both sides for the strap rings – check those pictures.

underwater-housing-leica3

Specs:

  • Resistant water pressure: 45m
  • Operation: All functions of corresponding digital camera, expect the joy stick function, push button and Left and Right, and strobe lever tune on and tune off.
  • Main material: Corrosion-resisting aluminum alloy, reinforced optical glass, brass, NBR, silicon rubber, and POM.
  • Size/Weight: 144 x 100 x 112 mm / 680 gr. (not including the camera)

4. Ewa Marine UW model should work with the Leica D-Lux 4 according to Adorama. A search on Ewa Marine websites shows that model D-SC will be right choice for Leica D-Lux 4 (rated for dives of up to 32 feet/10 meters depth). A little bit confusing. If you have any experience with an underwater housing for the Leica D-Lux 4, I would like to hear about it. Feel free to share some pictures too…

canon-5dmark-sensor

21.1 Megapixel Full-Frame CMOS Sensor

The Leica M9 may be using a version of the 5D Mark II sensor. The rumor is that Canon and Leica are in negotiations for a full frame sensor that will be used in the upcoming Leica M9.
