How are Leica lenses manifactured (video)

Every Leica lens is hand-crafted and goes through meticulous manufacturing processes to uphold the quality and precision that Leica defines and customers have come to expect. In the age where technology almost inevitably means mass manufacturing, Leica products are still made with exacting precision by the hands of highly-trained technicians.

Leica store in Moscow robbed

Leica Camera Russia reported that the Leica store in Moscow was robbed last night (Google translation):

“Today, July 9 at 3:00 am, two masked men in scrap metal shutters kicked the glass door with a sledgehammer and broke into the shop Leica on Leninsky Prospekt. After breaking all the windows, they stole part of the technique, which was in the store. Thieves coped for fifteen minutes.”

Looking at the pictures, it seems that the robbers did not clean the shelves completely and left a Leca S2 medium format camera (worth $23,000). Here is a full list of the stolen equipment with serial numbers:

Leica M9 will stay in production alongside the new M9-P

Several readers asked me if the Leica M9 will stay in production after the announcement of the M9-P. I contacted Leica Camera USA and they confirmed that both M9 and M9-P will stay in production.

Leica M9-P is expected to start shipping in late July 20111 in the US (already shipping in Europe in limited quantities). The price difference between the M9 and M9-P is $1000.
