The new camera from Leica will be called V-Lux 20

Leica V-Lux 20 mockup

I got some info on the new camera name – it will be called Leica V-Lux 20 (and not C-Lux 20 as previously reported – the EXIF data was correct). Some dealers can already place orders for the upcoming Leica V-Lux 20. The reason they decided to go with a V instead of a C model is probably because of the long zoom – 12x (the camera will be based on the Panasonic ZS7, so expect exactly the same specs).

Leica Summilux-M 1.4/35 ASPH lens listed as “Stopped”

This French Leica dealer has listed the Leica Summilux-M 1.4/35 ASPH lens as “Stopped” (Arrêt) on their Leica price sheet. Not sure how to interpret this, but my guess is that they can no longer order this lens from Leica.

The 35 Lux has been out of stock for months @ B&H and Adorama. All rumors pointed to a replacement announcement in March, but for whatever reasons this did not happen.

Leica may announce the new camera(s) on Monday

This is from a new source, so I am not sure how accurate that information is but Leica may announce their new camera(s) on Monday (April 12th). Not clear yet if it is going to be a V-Lux 20, a C-Lux 20, maybe both or something completely different.

The unofficial Leica M9 “a la carte” (sort of)

Update: I was told that the two M9 cameras from the video are special models made for Leica Futako-Tamagawa shop in Tokyo:

This is probably a custom job done by Leica – black Leica M9 with black Leica dot and engraved top plate (the black Leica dot can be purchased separately – check the M9 minisite):

If you are in New York

Starting tomorrow, there will be an exhibition in the Museum of Modern Art in New York – Henri Cartier-Bresson: The Modern Century.

“Henri Cartier-Bresson (1908–2004) is one of the most original, accomplished, influential, and beloved figures in the history of photography. His inventive work of the early 1930s helped define the creative potential of modern photography, and his uncanny ability to capture life on the run made his work synonymous with “the decisive moment”—the title of his first major book”

The exhibitions will be running from April 11 – June 28, 2010.

Full details on the new Leica Cinema lenses

Full details on the new Leica Cinema lenses can be found at bandpro. The price is not publicly announced, but you can get a quote (I just did). I am sure it will be a 5 digit number (for one lens, in US$).

Here is the actual size of one of the Leica Cinema lenses:

See previous posts on the Leica Cinema lenses here. The rumor has been around since 2008!
