In addition to the previously posted 35mm Summilux replacement rumors I received few more bits of information:
UPDATE: Amazon is now offering a 100$ discount on the Leica M9 if your order was previously canceled: reorder by the end of February 2010 and the credit will automatically be applied to the total.
The latest limited edition Leica M7 Hermes (more M7 Hermes stories) is now shipping
The Hermes limited edition M7 coupled with the 35mm 1.4 aspherical silver lens currently sells for $12,950.00 @ Adorama.
This is an update on my previous post.
Leica M9:
There is no slow down of deliveries in the North American market. Leica USA, a 100% owned subsidiary of Leica Camera AG, is the actual distributor for the North American market. There is no third party distributor in that case. This has not changed and will not change in the future . What happened is that Leica Camera AG has moved its warehouse and has informed its agencies (not dealers) that a weekly shipment might be delayed. Nevertheless, the M9 production is running at 100%. Leica has delivered as many M9 cameras in the past few weeks as in the same period in any of the prior months.
Leica X1:
Leica X1 production has started and initial shipments from the factory are still scheduled for January 2009.
Leica S2:
Leica Camera Inc. has received its first large shipment of Leica S2 which will be followed by a Leica S2P in the coming week.
UPDATE: see next post for updates on Leica availability in the US.
A reader who pre-ordered Leica M9 from Amazon few days ago just had his order canceled by Amazon:
The other day, I received an email from the Amazon Concierge stating that the approximate shipping date of this camera would be March 1st. Today I received an email from Amazon canceling my order stating that “Due to a lack of availability from our suppliers, we will not be able to obtain the Leica M9.”
Another report form dpreview (from Photo Village in NYC):
“He was just advised by Solms that Leica was changing US distributors and that he could expect NO shipments by Leica of ANY products for a full month.”
This could also explain the delay of Leica X1 deliveries. My guess is that all retailers got the same message from Leica.
Has anyone in the US received a M9 delivery since 01.01.2010?
