Project Progress Summary: Suzuki Handmade Camera Factory (35mm Film Rangefinder)

  • 2021–2023: Initial Setup Phase Three years dedicated to establishing a personal production environment and system for handmade camera manufacturing, culminating in the website launch.
  • January 2024: Annual Planning Outlined a 2024 activity plan emphasizing skill acquisition for part fabrication and prototype production, including monthly short-term goals.
  • January–February 2024 (Planned): Prototype Design Scheduled design of the prototype (basic functions only, focused on simplicity) and necessary jigs/tools; anticipated challenges in production techniques.
  • October 2024: Prototype Design Completion Achieved milestone of completing the prototype design, delayed by over eight months from the original February target; emphasized optimizations in size, internal layout, and shutter mechanics.
  • May 2025: First Test Photography Successfully took and developed a photo using the handmade camera prototype, marking initial functionality testing—though the print was accidentally ruined post-development.
  • July 2025: Part Fabrication Advances Progressed to machining the film rails for the camera body, demonstrating hands-on production of core internal components.
  • August 2025: Full Body Assembly Process Documented the complete handmade camera body fabrication process, designed entirely from scratch, highlighting independent development efforts.
  • September 2025: Continued Machining Focused on the top cover machining process for the camera body, indicating ongoing refinement of exterior and structural elements.
  • Current Status (as of October 2025) Project remains in active prototyping and fabrication stage, with the solo developer (based in Japan) building toward a “premium” mechanical 35mm film camera. No full production or release timeline announced yet.
