Two New 2013 Leica Calendars Showcase Music and Fashion Photography
Allendale, NJ (December 20, 2012) – A year can be measured not only as a unit of time, but also as a series of moments, interactions and experiences. With the introduction of the M Monochrom and the S-System calendars, Leica Camera honors moments captured by the two newly-released, revolutionary camera models, encouraging future perspectives for 2013. Capturing emotive performances from this year’s Montreux Jazz Festival, the M Monochrom Calendar features breathtaking images taken by the new offering in Leica’s flagship M-System, a groundbreaking tool that ushers the fascination of monochrome photography into the digital age. The Leica S-System Calendar showcases innovative images shot with the new Leica S by Rankin, the renowned British portrait and fashion photographer. Perfect for photography lovers, music enthusiasts and fashion aficionados, the M Monochrom and S-System calendars are now available worldwide.
The Leica M Monochrom Calendar spotlights exciting performances by stars of the international music scene at Switzerland’s Montreux Jazz Festival 2012, where Leica Camera served as the official photography partner. Using the M Monochrom, photographer Michael Agel documented the jazz festival’s spirited atmosphere with dramatic monochromatic images of live performances from featured artists including Erykah Badu, Alanis Morissette, Jamie N. Commons, Kimbra, Sebastien Teller, Hugh Laurie, Luiz Melodia, Buddy Guy, James Carter, Katie Melua, 69 Chambers and Michael Wollny.
The Leica S-System Calendar presents 12 hand-selected images by acclaimed British photographer, Rankin, with the new Leica S, a revolutionary design to fulfill the precise needs of professional photographers. Renowned for his celebrity portraits, Rankin’s dynamic portfolio bares his trademark style through intimately portraying the likes of subjects including Kate Moss, Heidi Klum, Gisele Bundchen and The Rolling Stones – with an innate ability to truly capture their character and soul. With ‘hair’ being the core theme for this particular collection of images the Londoner worked with prominent stylists offering up pure freedom to cultivate the selected outlandish, creatively configured scenarios. From the eerie portrait of a woman peeking out from behind a fern with a braid encasing her face, to the glowing blue lights dramatically wrapped around a model, each image is unique in both composition and mood. The studio sessions were shot exclusively for S Magazine, a one-of-a-kind publication that serves as a source of inspiration and contemporary photographic ideas for creative professional photographers.
The individual pages in both calendars are perforated at the top and bottom to allow the images to be detached and hung without the calendar dates. Both Leica calendars are available exclusively at Leica Stores, Boutiques, Dealers, and at the Leica Fotografie International online shop.
