For 50mm Summilux aficionados, this lens encapsulates the best of the pre-ASPH era in a single, modern production model.

  • Barrel design based off of the v1 50mm Summilux-M (1959-1962)
  • Optical design based of the v2 50mm Summilux-M (1962-2005) with modern glass elements and lens coatings
  • Extended close focusing distance of 0.7 meters
  • Brass construction & chrome-plated finish
  • Accepts standard E46 filters
  • Made in Germany

The rumored Leica M camera with EVF doesn’t mean the optical rangefinder is dead

I already see articles online with misleading clickbait titles predicting the “The end of an era” for the Leica M rangefinder system after I started reporting rumors about a new M camera with an EVF. Nothing is further from the truth. As I have already indicated on several occasions, Leica will most likely split the M line into two different products: “classic” with an optical rangefinder and “modern” with an EVF. It is even possible that the new M camera with EVF will be labeled as M11 and be part of the M11 product line.

There will be no Leica M12 in 2025, maybe we will see it in late 2026.

A new Leica M camera with an electronic viewfinder is rumored to be announced later this year
