Coming soon: new Voigtlander NOKTON 35mm f/1.2 Aspherical III VM lens for Leica M-mount

Voigtlander will soon announce a new NOKTON 35mm f/1.2 Aspherical III VM lens for Leica M-mount – a replacement for the current model VM II version. The new lens will be priced at ¥138,000 in Japan (around $1,250) and will start shipping in March 2020.

Josef Koudelka’s “Exiles and Panoramas” exhibition on display at the Ernst Leitz Museum

For a limited time, fans of renowned photographer Josef Koudelka can view his most personal work on display at the Ernst Leitz Museum in Wetzlar from March 5 to August 23, 2020. The exhibition titled “Exiles and Panoramas” is inclusive of his series “Exiles” as well as panoramas he took throughout the 80s.

The motifs seen throughout the “Exiles” series are reflective of Koudelka’s life throughout the 70s and 80s living a nomadic lifestyle and the revelations this period brought him about humanity. Paying close attention to people and to contemporary history, Koudelka spent decades producing exceptional photographs that show human beings in all their vitality and vulnerability.

The Leica M-mount is 70 years old today


Seventy years ago (February 10, 1950) Hugo Wehrenpfennig filed the patent for the Leica M-mount. The patent for the M-bayonet (“Bajonettvorrichtung für die lösbare Verbindung zweier Kamerateile”) was registered by Ernst Leitz GmbH at the German patent office on 10 February 1950 and published on 23 October 1952. Hugo Wehrenfennig was credited with the invention. The Leica M mount was officially introduced at the 1954 Photokina show with the Leica M3 as its first camera (Wikipedia). Here is the original patent filing:
