LEICA CAMERA INTRODUCES LATEST EDITION OF S MAGAZINE FEATURING RANKIN

Renowned British fashion photographer collaborates with notable hair stylists on nine unique fashion spreads

Allendale, NJ (November 27, 2012) – Leica Camera, the legendary German camera manufacturer, announces the release of S Magazine’s latest issue. S Magazine is unique in that it allows professional photographers to share inspiration and contemporary photographic ideas. The publication includes editorial portfolios and current advertising campaigns by prominent international photographers as well as information on the latest trends in commercial photography. Published by Leica Fotografie International, this new 200 page edition is dedicated to British fashion photographer Rankin and features images exclusively shot with the recently launched Leica S, a revolutionary tool designed with the precise needs of professional photographers in mind.

Nine spreads in the issue were shot by Rankin using the complete Leica S-System. Within each collection of images, Rankin collaborated with a top hair stylist who led the art direction with diverse subject matter ranging from “The Glow” to “Antithesis.” Featured hair stylists include Alain Pichon, Wendy Iles, Kenna, Raphaël Salley, Tina Outen, Nick Irwin, Kevin Ford, Charlie Le Mindu and Johnnie Sapong.

The three most expensive Leica cameras

The three most expensive Leica cameras from a serial production sold at the latest Westlicht auction for a total of €3.6 million:

With a price of 1,680,000 Euro the legendary M3D (opening bid: 150,000 Euros) owned by the LIFE photographer and Picasso intimate David Douglas Duncan is the most expensive camera from a serial production ever. It is the second-highest price ever paid for a camera.

The gold-plated ‘Luxus’ Leica dated 1929, sold for 1,020,000 Euro (opening bid: 70,000 Euro), was the second most expensive camera of the auction.

The very first serial-production M3 (1953, serial number 700001), formerly owned by Willi Stein, chief engineer of Leitz, was sold at a top price of 900,000 Euro (opening bid: 80,000 Euro)
