Leica M digital rangefinder designed by Jonathan Ive will be auctioned for charity on November 23

During the Leica M announcement last year, Andreas Kaufmann unofficially revealed that “a very special limited edition version of the camera” designed by Jonathan Ive will be coming in 2013. We now have some addition information – the camera will be sold at a (RED) Sotheby’s charity auction on November 23:

“Leading the auction are the two items designed in their entirety by Jony and Marc – a unique Leica Digital Rangefinder Camera, which is, in and of itself, a feat of extraordinary engineering…”

X-ray image of Leica rangefinder camera available for sale

The website luxinside.com sells prints that show what’s inside various luxury products and a Leica rangefinder camera is of course included. The images are creating by a special 3D scanning software. A 30×45 print can be yours for €260 ($350).

Leica C type 112 camera US price: $699

It seems that the Leica C type 112 camera is now officially announced and is already listed for pre-order at Dale Photo & Digital for $699:

The price is actually not bad at all considering that the equivalent Panasonic Lumix LF1 costs $499 and you get Lightroom 5 (priced at $122) with the Leica C. Here is the full US press release:

The new Leica C type 112 camera is based on the Panasonic LF1, designed by Audi

Update: the US price of the Leica C is $699 (the equivalent Panasonic Lumix LF1 costs $499).Keep in mind that with the Leica C you are getting also Lightroom 5 (priced at $122).

With every purchase of a brand new Leica X2 ($1,995), customers will receive the English version of the popular ‘Ninety Nine Years’ book, a $130 value. The book directs an emotional spotlight on 99 years of passion and enthusiasm for a small camera developed by Oskar Barnack in 1913/14.
