Palm Beach Photographic Centre Announces Grand Opening of New Leica Shop-in-Shop & Photo Exhibition by News Anchor Ann Curry

Public is Invited to Grand Opening on December 4 & Free Lecture by Ann Curry on December 5

First Leica Shop-in-Shop in the U.S.

(West Palm Beach, FL – November 20, 2009) Fatima NeJame, president and chief executive officer of the world renowned Palm Beach Photographic Centre (PBPC), today announced the December 4 Grand Opening of the nonprofit organization’s new Leica Shop-in-Shop, a boutique-like retail space located within PBPC’s Pro Shop for Photographers.

To celebrate the Grand Opening, the Palm Beach Photographic Centre is inviting the public to a number of special events:

Friday, December 4 – Leica Grand Opening
6:30 to 8 p.m.
The opening of both the Leica Shop-in-Shop at PBPC, and the exhibition Empathy by national news anchor & Leica M photographer Ann Curry. FREE

Saturday, December 5 – Ann Curry: Empathy
10 to 11 a.m.
A lecture by Ann Curry about the photos in her exhibition to be held in the City Commission Chambers at City Hall, City Center. FREE

11:30 to Noon
Ms. Curry will autograph exhibition posters in the Leica Shop-in-Shop within PBPC’s Pro Shop for Photographers.
“My travels have convinced me that no human being is really foreign to another. We have so much in common; the truth is we are surrounded by our sisters and brothers, mothers and fathers, each life precious. Leica to auction old R system production tools

The rumor is that Leica is going to auction some old production tools, mainly for the R system, that are no longer in use. The auction is expected to be handled by  Westlicht (they recently auctioned some Leica M9 prototypes). You can also see this movie about a Leica auction at Westlich from earlier this year.

Leica M9 in stock now!

I just heard that the Leica SIS in Palm Beach received a M9 shipment and since they just opened – they don’t have a waiting list! Hurry up, they only have few in stock (probably one or two). Phone: (561) 253-2606, email: [email protected], their website is www.proshopforphotographers.com.

They also have a wide range of lenses in stock, including the Noctilux .95 (lens prices are going up on January 1st, 2010).

Leica price increase

Update: it seems that the price of the M9, X1 and S2 will stay unchanged, everything else will go up (including M lenses). I will try to get the complete list.

8% – 15%

All Leica products will go up in price in the US starting January 2010. The expected price increase will be between 8% to 15%. This will make the Leica M9 even more desirable and… unavailable.

Besides getting on the waiting list at your local dealer, I still believe your best chance to get a M9 is B&H:

Steel Gray M9 @ B&H

If you remember my previous post – I received notifications that at least two M9s were shipped from B&H to readers of this blog – they placed their orders on November 20th. B&H did not take pre-orders before that date, so they did not have a waiting list.

Ebay currently has two M9s for sell.

Back to the prices: for example the new MSRP of the Leica D-Lux 4 will be $880 (currently selling for $699 at Amazon). I will try to get the complete price list and will post more details.

I have no information on a price increase in other countries.

A new hand strap for Leica X1 is expected. Delivery in January 2010, price: $100.
