Leica’s global sales fell 38% because of delays in the introduction of new products
“Leica’s global sales fell 38% for the three months to 30 June compared to the same quarter last year…The strong decline is due to reduced sales of the M-system and of digital compact cameras, resulting from delays in the introduction of new products, states Leica Camera AG in a statement.”

Rumor: Leica considering rebranding Canon DSLRs (updated)
Update: Imaging Insider received an e-mail on Monday, August 18, 2008 from someone that apparently works for Leica confirming this rumor. Here is the updated link.
I would say the chance of this to happened is 1%, but it is still a rumor:
“There´s a hint going around that Leica is considering rebranding Canon DSLRs”

Photokina rumor: Leica will be releasing a new lower price rangefinder, an R10, and the new D Lux-4
“I was told by a very reliable source. Leica wants to expand it’s sales in their camera and lens divisions. Making an RF camera that is affordable, ($1000 – $2,000) and lenses that are more affordable, which they are doing currently, should get more people using the RF format. This camera will be announced and shown at Photokina, along with the new R10, and the Dlux-4, in a kit form (including a telephoto add-on lens). It makes good marketing sense. Also, they are going to drop the 4/3 system, leaving Olympus to their Zuiko lenses, and continue their association with Panasonic. My source is solid, I’m not a troll. I guess we’ll know next month, for sure.”

Big “Leica-Bang” on September 15th
The German Foto Magazine distributed some Leica rumors in their latest edition (page 30):
Concerning the German photojournal FotoMagazin (FoMag) 8/2008 , which appeared today, there will be following Leica-news at Photochina:
– Leica will introduce a FF R10 and a new corresponding AF -lens line as prototype. Production will start late 2009.
– There will not be a new Leica FT model – but Leica will continue together with Panasonic the FTs line ( – think whatever you believe imho it is an Ausstieg¹ )
– FoMag is waiting for a new “Leica-Knaller” (Big Leica-Bang) which will be introduced at Sept. 15th in a press conference. FoMag will publish the news on a separate FoMag internet page.
Don’t judge a book by its cover
We just launched this bog and already received few skeptical emails about this site, which is fine – we like constructive criticism (we got some encouraging messages too). Rumors sites cannot deliver new rumors every day starting with the first post. Like everything else it will take time to analyze our sources and start collecting some credible information. You will be surprised of the amount and quality of information we are now receiving at NikonRumors. Over time ,we will be able to accomplish the same results here. Yes, we did report on some old Leica rumors, but we have some catching up to do.
Someone mentioned that we are just following the news already reported on other sites. This is partially true, but in NikonRumos we were the first one to deliver on many rumors and most of them turned out to be true – the latest picture of Nikon D90 is a good example (of course we still do not know if it is the real deal). We do believe we were the first one to publish it. Of course many other sites picked on it, but if you look at the time stamps and follow the source links, they all go back to NR. Remember the Nikon D700? Just over a month ago very few readers believed this story and now photographers are already shooting with it.
Why we are saying all this? Just one reason/request: please be patient, don’t judge a book by its cover and give us some time.
