The previously rumored Leica M9 to M9-P upgrade program is now official. Two options will be available: “Sapphire Glass” upgrade package for $1,295 and “Top Cover and Sapphire Glass” upgrade package for $1,995. Both packages come with a one-year warranty extension. Several readers asked me if the Leica M9 will stay in production after the announcement of the M9-P. I contacted Leica Camera USA and they confirmed that both M9 and M9-P will stay in production. Leica M9-P is expected to start shipping in late July 20111 in the US (already shipping in Europe in limited quantities). […]

I am not sure about other countries, but a new Leica M9 to M9-P upgrade program will be launched for the US in the next few weeks. I don’t know if the upgrade program will include also changing the vulcanite leatherette of the M9. Stay tuned for the details.
