What’s next for Leica? (Leica Q2 Monochrom rumors)

Some new Leica rumors:

  • Leica Q2 Monochrom is a possibility (not confirmed yet, reported only by one source)
  • There will be a new special/limited edition Noctilux M 50mm f/0.95 lens (with a vintage design?).
  • Leica is now working on “next-generation M lens design” that will be optimized for high megapixel cameras (long term plan, at least a few years until we start seeing these new lenses on the market).
  • Leica is also working on new Noctilux lenses, including a new 50mm Noctilux that is expected in 4-5 years.
  • New versions of the WATE and MATE lenses are also being developed and are under consideration.

Here is an updated list of rumored/expected Leica cameras and lenses (see the previous lists here):

Leica M10 Monochrom will 41MP sensor coming in 2020.

Leica S3 (delayed until spring 2020)

New Leica M 35mm Noctilux lens

New Leica SL lenses

Leica is planning to release/resurrect more vintage lenses in the future (new APO lens and 135mm lenses rumored, also a new Leica APO Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4 Asph lens with closer focusing capabilities).

Leica L3 watch with a mechanical alarm complication

New Leica M mount camera with EVF is rumored to be in the works (already rumored before here): 24MP sensor, body similar to the M240. The camera will have a native M mount and will be offered as an alternative to the M10 (the pictures above are just a concept sent in by a reader). No new Leica M11 in 2020 but there could be a new Leica M10X with a 47MP sensor rumored for 2020 (not sure what X stands for – maybe “xtra resolution”).

Still not sure about the previously rumored Leica C-M full-frame mirrorless camera after Leica denied the rumors.
