The first die-cast Leica camera

The first die-cast Leica camera (1933/1934): this prototype represents the earliest experimental version of the later Leica IIIc – with opening swing-up backdoor and folding rewind crank – features that were commercially introduced later in 1954 with the Leica M3, and in 1967 with the Leica M4. This camera will be part of the next Wetzlar Camera Auctions on October 12, 2024.

Next year (2024) is the 70th anniversary of the Leica M camera system and we can expect several new products to commemorate the event. Leica is rumored to release three new M cameras in 2024. One of the cameras could be a new Leica M12 (with a 70MP sensor?).

→ New Gura Gear Kiboko City Classic 18L+ camera backpack announced.

→ Light Lens Lab released a new 50mm f/2 Rigid-SPII lens for Leica M-mount (order here). The lens features the 50mm f/2 Speed Panchro II optical block housed in a new Type Two “Rigid” 50mm f/2 body. The lens will be available in Chrome for the initial orders starting on December 19th for $849 and it will end on January 1st, 2024. The price after that will be $1,049. The first batch will be delivered in late January/February 2024. Additional information is available here.

→ Mr.Ding released a new version 2.1 of their Noxlux DG 50mm f/1.1 E58 lens for Leica M mount. The optical structure remains unchanged, but the new version has several upgrades – see this post for more details.
