Please update your LeicaRumors RSS feed (and a new email subscription option)

By LR admin | Published: February 22, 2023

I still have readers emailing me with questions on how to subscribe to LeicaRumors. The previous email subscription service called Feedburner is no longer available – Google decided to kill it after I have been using it for 15 years.

Email Subscription

You can subscribe for email notifications on FeedRabbit for free (you will need to enter the LeicaRumors RSS feed: https://leicarumors.com/feed/).

RSS Feed

When Google killed the email subscription service, they also broke the blog’s RSS feed. If you are using RSS to get LeicaRumors updates, please make sure you use the correct feed:

https://leicarumors.com/feed/

The old feed that had Feedburner in the link is no longer working. If you don’t use an RSS reader, I can highly recommend it – check Google for additional information.

Social Media

You can also follow LeicaRumors on Facebook and Twitter (LR also has Instagram, YouTube, Flickr, and Pinterest accounts but there is not much going on there).

This new OpticExplorer lens simulator / database has the details on 50 Leica lenses

By LR admin | Published: February 21, 2023

Leica Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4 ASPH lens

Optic Explorer contacted me about their new lens simulator/lens database website (http://www.opticexplorer.com). You can use this web application to simulate the characteristics and performance of many lenses. They have a sizable database of existing lens designs that can be searched for and simulated. You can explore the lens database and play with lenses, light sources etc. without logging in or creating an account. If you want to create your own library of lens designs, you can create an account to store and share your designs. In either case, it’s free to use.

The Leica lens selection can be found here.

The latest Leica Summilux 35mm f/1.4 V1 “Steel Rim” lens will get a redesigned hood

By LR admin | Published: February 20, 2023

I was told that the latest Leica Summilux 35mm f/1.4 V1 “Steel Rim” lens will get a redesigned hood.

Leica is rumored to redesign the round hood for the new Steel Rim remake since the current lens hood causes a vignette when used with filters (first reported by Fred Miranda). Leica’s customer service has confirmed that they are redesigning the round hood and will ship it out to existing customers.
