The actual name of the Mini M will be Leica X Vario Type 107 – you can see the label on the top plate of the camera in the picture above. All of the initial rumors were true, here are the detailed specifications:

  • Full HD video

Evgenia Arbugaewa wins the 2013 Leica Oskar Barnack Award for her project Tiksi

Solms, Germany (June 5, 2013) –  The first prize in Leica Camera’s highly prestigious annual photography competition, the “Leica Oskar Barnack Award 2013” goes to Siberian-born Evgenia Arbugaeva. For her winning submission, a project titled Tiksi, Arbugaeva will receive a Leica M camera valued at €10,000 and a cash prize of €5,000. The second-place winner in the competition, Ciril Jazbec, will be presented with the “2013 Leica Oskar Barnack Newcomer Award” and a Leica M camera and lens. The prizes will be presented at the Rencontres Internationales de la Photographie in Arles, France, on July 3, 2013.

Leica to unveil a new special edition camera on June 20th

With the opening of their new flagship store in LA on June 20th, Leica is planning to unveil also a new special edition camera during the event. Could this be the limited edition Leica M designed by Jonathan Ive that is expected for 2013?

The sculpture by the Chinese artist Liao Yibai will most likely be a huge stainless steel replica of a Leica rangefinder.

Leica Mini M: “larger than usual sensor for its relatively small body”

Leica camera published another teaser on their Facebook page with the text:

“Only one week left: Get a hands-on experience at our Leica Authorized Dealers on June 11 when all will be revealed about the newest Leica family member, including its larger than usual sensor for its relatively small body.”

The larger sensor is a new twist, since previous reports indicated an APS-C based camera. Keep in mind that this doesn’t necessarily mean a full frame sensor – they may use a 18 x 27mm sensor with 1.33x crop factor similar to the Leica M8.
