New Leica Shop coming up in Warsaw
Leica stores, which I think now are officially called Leica Boutique, have already been opened in France, UK, Russia, Japan and USA (see the previous post on this topic).
The next Leica boutique will be opened in the capital of Poland – Warsaw. The shop will be located in the Blue City shopping center. Besides the whole Leica photography system (includes M, and S-series), you’ll be able to find the sport optics products and projection corner. Small exhibition space, and library are also expected. The shop is ready to open within 10days.
If you are in the area and still waiting for a Leica M9, there is a very good chance that they may have some on the opening day.

New Leica 35mm Summilux lens details
This just in regarding the rumored new Leica 35mm Summilux lens:
- Will have a floating element construction to reduce focusing shift to nothing.
- Will be on the market in March, 2010.
- Will have screw lens hood like the Elmar 24.
- Will be a little bigger than old version (which is now coincidently out of stock @ B&H).
My guess at the price: $4,995.
Upcoming Leica announcements: C-Lux 4, V-Lux 2?
Leica should announce 3 new compact cameras soon (probably in February). Two of them will be produced by Panasonic and the third one is suppose to be Leica’s own production. Leica D-Lux 4 replacement is not expected at that point.
Leica C-Lux 3 is already listed as discontinued @ B&H:
Adorama doesn’t even list the C-Lux 3 model any longer. Amazon still has some at outrages prices => we should be expecting a new C-Lux 4 soon.
And what is the deal with the Leica V-Lux 1? Leica still has it listed on its website and this model is hardly found in retailers. Could that be the second camera to be announced (or something similar)?
(maybe the third, in house model is actually the Leica X1)
On the M front, a new 35mm Summilux is expected in the next few months. This rumor has been circulating for a while.
Some more links on the “mystery lenses”
Reduser has a huge thread discussing this topic. Another report on the “Mystery” lenses can be found here. The lenses are labeled as “Made in Germany”.
This is the banner on bandpro.de (with more details about the lenses available here):
Leica 4k cine lenses almost official
Tvbeurope has an article with today’s date about the upcoming Leica cine lenses – the announcement was made by Dr Andreas Kaufmann:
“These lenses have cost $10m to develop and are designed to fit the needs of future digital cameras. They can scale up to the demands of next generation digital cameras and are half the size and weight of any existing lenses on the market since they use lightweight high strength titanium materials.”
More details from the article:
- the new lenses will be officially launched at NAB 2010 (April, 2010)
- 15 different focal lengths, ranging from 12mm to 150mm
- delivery starting June 2010.
- a typical lens will weighs about 1.4kg.
