We may get the Leica M12 in early 2027 instead of another Leica M11-R: expect only minor improvements

Back in June, I reported that Leica may announce a new M11-R camera in early 2027 with a larger LCD screen and a different button/comntrols placement:

Leica M11-R camera rumors

The latest rumors suggest Leica plans to release this camera as the next M12 version. Here is what to expect:

  • The Leica M12 will use the same 60MP sensor and processor/engine as the M11, not the Chinese-made Gpixel sensor reported earlier.
  • The Leica M12 will have a larger rear screen.
  • The camera is reportedly already in production.
  • The official announcement is rumored for early 2027.
  • The buttons will be on the right side instead of the left, similar to the Leica SL3-P and Leica Q3:
