Oskar Barnack’s 0-Series Leica camera expected to fetch over $3M at the next Leitz Photographica Auction



The 20th anniversary of the Leitz Photographica Auction will be special (will be held on 11 June at the Leitz Park in Wetzlar): it will offer for auction the historically unique Leica 0-Series camera with a serial number 105. This was the personal camera of Oskar Barnack, the inventor of 35 mm photography.

TTartinsan released a new “brassed” version of their camera light meter (international shipping available):

  • The meter conveniently slips into the camera’s shoe while readings are taken
  • Three dials – one for ISO, one for aperture and one for shutter speed allow settings to be made
  • A series of LEDs illuminate to tell the user when the correct measurement has been achieved
  • Available in Black (Brass), Black (Aviation Aluminum), and Silver (Aviation Aluminum)

→ Used Leica KE-7A camera with 50mm Elcan f/2 lens is listed for sale at Leica Store Miami for $30,495:

“In 1972, Leitz Canada was commissioned by the United States Army to manufacture a special version of the Leica M4 analog camera: the Leica KE-7A. What makes the KE-7A truly unique is its accompanying lens: the 50mm Elcan f/2, which was only offered as part of this set. It features only four lens elements, without any cementing, and was designed to be shock and cold resistant. The lens elements are infrared-absorbing glass made with lanthanum; a radioactive element that helps achieve an exceptionally high refractive index for heat control in making the optics. Only 505 total units were produced.”
