Leica Mini M: “larger than usual sensor for its relatively small body”

Leica camera published another teaser on their Facebook page with the text:

“Only one week left: Get a hands-on experience at our Leica Authorized Dealers on June 11 when all will be revealed about the newest Leica family member, including its larger than usual sensor for its relatively small body.”

The larger sensor is a new twist, since previous reports indicated an APS-C based camera. Keep in mind that this doesn’t necessarily mean a full frame sensor – they may use a 18 x 27mm sensor with 1.33x crop factor similar to the Leica M8.

Firmware 1.002 for Leica Monochrome released

Leica Camera released firmware update 1.002 for the Leica Monochrome rangefinder. The improvements are:

  • Bugfix to improve stability in “Discreet”-Mode
  • Linguistic improvements in French, Italian
  • Improved stability when the camera is connected to USB

Another, most likely photoshopped, picture of the Leica Mini M surfaced on Facebook. The body and the specs are different from the info that leaked last week. The lens is now listed as f/2.8-4.0 which is much better than the previous f/3.5-6.4.

Leica Camera announces S-Adapter C for Contax 645 lenses

Leica Camera is pleased to introduce the Leica S-Adapter C which will be available from this June. With this adapter, Contax 645 lenses can be used with the Leica S (Typ 007), Leica S2 and Leica S2-P cameras. The adapter enables owners of the Contax 645 system to switch effortlessly to the Leica S System. The Leica S-Adapter C when used with Contax 645 lenses on any of the Leica S cameras offers the following:

  • Autofocus and manual focus with focus confirmation
  • Automatic aperture
  • Using the EXIF data of lenses of Contax 645 system
  • Use of corrective lens profiles for the Contax 645 system when converting the RAW files in Adobe Lightroom or Adobe Photoshop.

When using the adapter with Contax 645 lenses, the aperture is selected with the manual mode or the automatic setting of the camera.

Leica “Mini M” in stores on June 11th

Leica Camera published a new banner on their Facebook page for their Mini M campaign with the text “Meet the new Leica family member on the 11th of June” and “Heard the rumors? Get the truth: Leica Stores – June 11th.” This indicates that there will be only one camera announced on June 11th and the first units will be in stock/on display in Leica stores on that date. As I already mentioned, the new camera will be made in Germany.
