NEW HAVEN, CT, December 27, 2013 — Stan Tamarkin’s December rare camera auction set a world record for the sale of prototype lenses. Five lenses sold for a total of $210,917, including buyer’s fee, and one lens, a 90mm Elcan f1, made by the E. Leitz GmbH affiliate in Canada, sold for a stupendous $101,000.

Ralph Gibson’s new book “MONO”, which features images taken with the Leica M Monochrom, was released on December 11 at the Leica Store Lisse. Also announced at the event was the exclusive, limited edition Leica M Monochrom “Ralph Gibson”.
Leica Camera teamed up with the Miami Street Photography Festival to help bring back photography into Art Basel Miami. Featured events included portraits by Mark Mann with the Leica S-System and workshops with the Leica Akademie. Art Basel Miami was held on December 3 – December 8, 2013.
The price of the Leica X Vario camera dropped on Amazon by $170 from several different retailers. I have not seen a Leica price drop in a very long time (the original price was $2,850).
