Leica Camera AG opened a new plant in Vila Nova de Famalicão, Portugal. The new 52,000 m2 facility with a price tag of approximately EUR 23 million (USD 30 million) will employ 720 people. The Leica Portugal division was initially founded in 1973. No details were given as to what products will be manufacturer at the new factory.

The German website mittelhessen.de published a series of photos from the ongoing construction of the new Leitz Park in Wetzlar. The project is scheduled to be completed by November 2013. The new building will be around 27,000 m².

Leica Camera has scheduled several different events for the grand opening of their latest Leica Store in Miami. There will be lectures by Alessandra Sanguinetti and Bruce Gilden, the store gallery will feature work from Magnum’s photographic project “Postcards from America”, several photo walks will be available where you will be able to try different Leica cameras (the new Leica M is available for demo in half-hour appointments).
