Some people seem confused or just plain clueless when it comes to Leica camera product lines and nomenclature. Publishing articles with headlines like these is just plain s****d:

“New Leica D-Lux 8 is coming in May/June and compete with the Fuji X100VI.”

“Leica D-Lux 8 Specs LEAKED: The APS-C Competitor to Fujifilm X100VI Coming May/June”

Obviously, the reported D-Lux 8 specs are also all made up. I cannot believe that I have to state the obvious, but the upcoming Leica D-Lux 8 camera will NOT have an APS-C sensor and a fixed prime lens.

New Leica D-Lux 8 camera rumored to be announced this summer

The newly registered Leica Type 3952A camera will be announced this summer as a new Leica D-Lux 8 model. The interesting rumor here is that the D-Lux 8 will be sold only by Leica and there will not be an equivalent Panasonic LX100 camera. This explains why the new D-Lux 8 is labeled as Type 3952A (the D-Lux 7 was Type 3952).

The demand for small fix lens cameras is currently very strong and models like the Fuji X100 and Ricoh GRIII are almost impossible to get. It seems that Leica decided to capitalize on that trend even without Panasonic. I am curious what and how many upgrades Leica will introduce to the new D-Lux 8.

The starting bid for Christo’s “Wrapped Leica” at the Wetzlar Camera Auction will be €40,000. The estimated selling price for now is €80,000 – €100,000 but I expect the final hammer price to be significantly higher. Other wrapped objects by Christo sold in the past for €250,000 and more.

Here is another Leica M concept camera, this time by Shanghai-based industrial designer Wencheng Zhang:

“In that same vein, Zhang’s version of the Leica M is imagined to be precisely forged from a single block of aluminum alloy, imparting the form with a similar unibody confidence with what seems to be a cross between the Leica M11 and the smaller machined TL2. The designer himself says the concept’s minimalist form was actually inspired by a film camera of much older origin: Leica’s first ever camera, the Ur-Leica Replica.”

What’s next after the Leica SL3: a new Leica Summilux-M 35mm f/1.4 Steel Rim black paint reissue

A few weeks ago I already reported that shortly after the Leica SL3 camera announcement, there will be another M-mount lens announcement. I now believe the upcoming lens will be a new Leica Summilux-M 35mm f/1.4 Steel Rim black paint reissue version. The official announcement is rumored for or around March 21st, 2024. The price tag is expected to be around €9,980. This new lens will be a limited production run (only 200 or 250 pieces worldwide). Stay tuned for more details.

Update: the lens could be black anodized.
